About Lorena
Lorena was born in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, México, and has lived in
almost all of the states of México during her childhood. She has experienced
the rich cultural diversity and artistic expressions of her country through her travels,
and her love of folk art.Lorena initiated her studies in Mass Communication Sciences at the Universidad Iberoamericana Noroeste in Baja California, México, to later continue with her major in Mass Communication and Advertising at the University of Texas at El Paso. After several years of doing art and graphic design, as well as managing the business side of her family's print shop, she moved to Princeton, New Jersey, to start her own family. Motivated by nostalgic feelings and her passion for Mexican folk art, her natural artistic talents emerged when Lorena started to create her own pieces to decorate her house. In 2003 Lorena and her family moved to San Antonio, Texas, where the same passion and appreciation for art motivated the opening of her retail store Pueblo Folk Art in the Stone Oak area. While in San Antonio, Lorena joined the Southwest School of Art & Craft, where she continues to master her craft in metal smithing and other disciplines. She is currently devoting most of her time to designing and creating unique jewelry pieces. Lorena works primarly in fine silver and bronze metal clay, sterling silver, copper, and most recently copper clay. She also creates original figures such as angels, flowers, catrinas, nativity scenes, decorated crosses, painted wood bateas, mixed media jewelry, and more. Recently, Lorena participated as invited artist in a day long art workshop at a local elementary school where students of all grades had a chance to learn hands on the technique of repujado or metal embossing, another of her skills. Lorena has been an invited metal clay instructor at SaySí, a non-profit organization based in San Antonio, Texas, that provides young students opportunities to develop artistic and social skills in preparation for higher educational advancement and professional careers. She has also recently joined the Faculty of the Southwest School of Art & Craft as an instructor of the Metals Department. Her work has been exhibited at several events in galleries, museums, art shows and local boutiques. Several of her signature jewelry designs in precious metal clay have been featured in the 2008 and 2009 PMC Guild Annual books, "Exceptional Work in Precious Metal Clay", and other publications, and on-line galleries, blogs and trade sites. Lorena has received her Certification as Qualified Metal Clay Artisan, and is an active member of the PMC Guild, founding member of its Metal Clay Artists of San Antonio Chapter, and the Society of North American Goldsmiths. We invite you to visit Lorena's Gallery pages to take a closer look at her work, and her Blog to learn about new projects, etc. If you are interested in purchasing a particular piece, or to commission custom made work, or to inquire about representing Lorena's jewelry, please feel free to get in touch with her through the contact page on this site.
